Categories: News

Chapter Coach Rick Hengstenberg, PGA began working with Treasure Coast based Special Olympics participants last summer. Mark Cammarene, PGA worked with the on-course players throughout the summer at Fairwinds Golf Club helping them to prepare for competition. Tim Stoklosa, one of our newest Chapter Coaches, coached 15 athletes in Martin County at Martin County Golf Course. Athletes practice all summer and then compete in Area Games, with the opportunity to qualify for State Games and finally the National Games. This past week were the Florida State Games in Orlando FL. Both Coach Rick and Coach Tim attended the Florida State Games in Orlando with their qualifying athletes. We are currently working with over 30 students in the program.

Our athletes placed as follows:

  • Al and Kelsey Kuebler- Alternate Shot Team Bronze
  • Stephen Lepore “Mr. Hollywood”- 3-hole new sport and won his first ever gold!
  • Miguel Perez- Skills Gold Medal (pictured above with Coach Rick)
  • Alex Perry and Neff Rivera- Unified Team Play Bronze
  • Demetrius Perry- Indiv. Stroke 9-hole 4th place
  • Frank Vernoia- Indiv. Stroke 18-hole 4th place. Frank is attending a National Tournament in Tennessee in a few weeks.
  • Deloris “Carmen” Maldonado- Won a Bronze medal for skills.
  • Sam Finley and Matt McCarthy- Won bronze for 18-hole Unified Stroke Play.

Jim met everyone the week before during golf practice and wanted to do something special for the team before they headed to the county games at Fairwinds Golf Club, so he offered to buy lunch for group.

Thank You Jim Goldsmith for your support, and generosity!
