Our chapter’s new partnership with the Boys and Girls Club in Martin County has enjoyed tremendous success over the past several months by having an employee at the Boys and Girls Clubs solely focused on our chapter programming. MaryLois Altmann began her new role late last year.

“MaryLois has been an incredible addition to further the goals of our chapter,” said Andrew Hunt, Chapter President. “She has helped us to recruit and retain the students and is present at the clubs every day to answer questions and interface with the parents.”

In collaboration with Willoughby Golf Club, Champions Club at Summerfield and Indianwood Golf Club, our Coaches have been able to provide structured lessons for Boys and Girls Club youth from the Hobe Sound, Port Salerno and Indiantown clubs at incredible golf clubs in Martin County. Several of our students are enjoying the game so much that they have been asking parents to take them to the driving range on weekends.

One young man, Calvin Calderon (pictured above) has shown such an interest in continuing to improve his golf skills that over the holidays when Santa caught wind, he had a set of clubs delivered to him through The First Tee. Calvin, who will be back with our program this year, has been a participant in two major events sponsored by our chaper. He participated in the Golf Skills Challenge at Mariner Sands and a tournament at Jupiter Dunes.

The program will be back for its next nine-week session in late January and will now include Palm City and Stuart Boys and Girls Clubs in partnership with Pipers Landing Yacht and Country Club.

We thank the golf clubs for allowing us the privilege of using their awesome facilities.
