Mariner Sands Country Club and 60 of their members volunteered to host their 2nd Annual Golf Skills Challenge.

50 participants competed from Martin and St Lucie Counties, including students from our program partners of The Boys and Girls Clubs and the Samaritan Center.

The Golf Skills Challenge consisted of driving, chipping and putting competition for ages 8 to 18. The age divisions were 18-and-under, 15-and-under and 11-and-under.  Each participant was accompanied by a member of Mariner Sands that served as their “caddie.” The member kept score and provided encouragement.

“We’re trying to attract younger people to the game and provide for special events for our students,” said Gennifer Marrs, LPGA – Chapter Director of Operations.  “We know that young people like to compete in these types of events with their friends.”

The event was free to all participants in special thanks to our sponsors:

mariner-sands-lunch-2016PGA Tour Legend Chi-Chi Rodriguez  also spoke at the event and helped present the champion plaques, pictured above, with Chapter President Andrew Hunt and winners.  Chi Chi spoke about how golf has impacted his life and many young people through his foundation which is held at The First Tee of Clearwater.

Special shout out to our former Director of Operations in the Treasure Coast, Chuck Knebels, for all his help with this event and his continued support of our Chapter.
